Thanksgiving 2016: What's open, what's closed?

Thursday, Nov. 24, is Thanksgiving across the United States.

George Washington issued the first Thanksgiving proclamation in 1789. It was first marked as a national holiday during the Civil War in 1863, scheduled for the last Thursday of November. It was later moved up a week during the Great Depression by Franklin D. Roosevelt in an attempt to boost retails sales, but was changed again to the fourth Thursday in November in 1941.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will kick off its 90th anniversary at 9 a.m. on NBC.

Local, state and federal government offices will be closed. So will the libraries.

Banks will not open.

No mail will be delivered. UPS and FedEx workers will also be off.

Meanwhile, the gate of the TYMIN is opened for you.
